Broadmoor Technical Center

Kevin Cowan Architects was commissioned by the SMSD to provide a multi-faceted renovation and addition to Broadmoor Technical Center. Existing classrooms were renovated to accommodate the requirements of the relocated Fashion Design department and the District’s Food Service Group. The remaining 6,000 SF of abandoned classrooms were renovated for the Culinary Arts Program with a 3,000 SF dining space addition. The Culinary Arts renovation and addition created a complete commercial-grade teaching/production kitchen and bakery for 40 students in each program and a small auditorium-style classroom with kitchen and broadcast capabilities. The 100-seat dining addition provides a “bistro style” experience for students to present their culinary skills to the public every week. Additional upgrades included HVAC and IT/projector systems for all School classrooms, as well as maintenance repairs to deteriorating concrete drives/sidewalks, masonry walls, and plumbing.
