Kansas City, MO
2001
During the construction of the initial 10,000 SF preschool facility, the Owner hired KC Architects to assist them through construction administration to complete and finalize the project for use. Upon completion of the initial project, the Owner hired KC Architects to design and program an additional 10,000 SF expansion to satisfy the much-needed growth in the community. KC Architects was responsible for meeting city zoning and permitting requirements. The new addition included new classrooms, toddler rooms, an indoor gymnasium / recreational area, ADA toilets, an administration area, offices, a conference room, a staff lounge, storage, and HVAC space.
The classrooms had computer stations, carpeted reading areas, and tiled play areas for a complete learning environment. Complete interior design, material, color, and finish selections, and some special furniture designs were also a part of KCA’s scope of work. An artist recommended to KCA was hired to paint full floor-to-ceiling murals depicting school and play themes. KC Architects selected the play/riding equipment and designed the outdoor playground, which included a soccer field, trike paths, and various covered play shelters along with a complete landscape design.
